For Immediate Release – Downtown Corner Brook and Bartlett’s Point Park to see Improvements

Gudie Hutchings, Member of Parliament for Long Range Mountains, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today announced Government of Canada funding for two projects in Corner Brook.

The City of Corner Brook will implement a downtown development plan thanks in part to a contribution of more than $500,000 from ACOA.  Identified as a priority in the City’s Urban Design Action Plan, this project will improve leisure destinations, corridors, islands, gateways and signage in the downtown area, helping to improve the area’s aesthetics and providing a physical link between the City’s two business districts.  The City of Corner Brook in Partnership with the Federal Government will be investing almost $450, 000 to support the development of the Downtown Revitalization Project: Downtown Urban Design Action Plan. Additionally, the Downtown Business Association will be contributing $60,000 to support the redevelopment.

The Government of Canada, through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, is also investing $93,867 for improvements to Bartlett’s Point Park. The project includes upgrades to the entrance, parking area and site lighting; installation of playground equipment, a rock wall and pavers; as well as improvements to beach access and signage. This project will help complete the construction necessary to open the park to the public. The City of Corner Brook has announced a commitment of almost $100, 000 to support completion of Bartlett’s Point Park.
