Business Spotlight This page is dedicated to promoting and supporting the businesses of Corner Brook. Local businesses will be featured on a continual basis with articles and images about their success. May 6, 2003 Sideways Board Shop
Corner Brook, NL - Sideways Board Shop is Corner Brook's answer to the demands of the ever-increasing population of skate and snowboarders. After seeing a substantial gap within this consumer market, owners Jennifer Lundrigan and husband, Greg Grant saw two great opportunities. First, a chance to start a business that provided skate and snowboard products to the public and second, a means to have full-time employment in a sector that she was really interested in. Since their establishment in 1998, Sideways Board Shop has grown to offer a wide variety of retail items available for both sports. To check out accessories like their apparel, footwear, hardware components and ready-to-use boards, visit their store on West Street. Sideways Board Shop is open Monday to Thursday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition to Sideways Board Shop, they are the only Canadian producers and distributors of yurts. After realizing that there were no Canadian yurt (a multi-purpose, environmentally-friendly outdoor structure made to withstand harsh climates) manufacturers, Jennifer and Greg decided to begin a production company called Tuckamore Yurts about 18-months ago as a way to remedy the prohibitive costs of Canadians purchasing yurts from the United States. Tuckamore Yurts are high-quality modern day structures that are based on the wisdom from the ancient Asian design. They are hand crafted from local, renewable timber and have high-tech architectural fabrics, corrosion resistant fasteners and modern security features. Their easy set-up guide gives you a complete and easy to follow instructions with only a few hand tools. These environmentally sound yurts have a two-year warranty on woodwork, five years on covers and a lifetime warranty on locksets. A yurt will last many, many years with only a little annual maintenance.
Currently, Tuckamore Yurts are marketed to the northeastern seaboard of the United States as well as to Eastern and Atlantic Canada.
