under warrant issued by the
Earl Marshal and Hereditary Marshal of England THE
ARMORIAL BEARINGS OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS OF
THE CITY OF CORNER BROOK On the Grant of
Arms, the Armorial Ensigns are described by the Kings of Arms in heraldic terms
as follows:
| Per chevron Vert and Barry
wavy of eight Azure and Argent in chief a Pale wavy Argent thereon a
Pallet wavy Azure between two Newfoundland Fir Trees eradicated Or all
within a Bordure quarterly of the last and Argent charged with eight
Maple Leaves in their Autumn colours proper And for the Crest
On a Wreath Argent and Vert a Mount Vert thereon a Northern Pitcher
Plant flowered and leaved proper. |
In understanding this mediaeval English and
French terminology, the key words are the colours (tinctures), which come after
the devices they describe. These arms show Vert (green), Azure (blue),
Argent (silver), and Or (gold).
