WHAT ITEMS ARE DIVERTIBLE? Divertible material is defined as substances that can easily be recycled by members of the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional sectors. The current list of divertible material includes Corrugated Cardboard, Paper, Aluminum and Steel. As a business please ensure that the following items are not disposed of with regular refuse, they must be stored separately and brought to the recycling depot.
Scrap Metal Recycling is another area that can have a significant impact on reducing the disposal volume at the Landfill. The City has designated an area at the Wild Cove Landfill for the storage of scrap metals and material from that area is sent for recycling several times per year. These items must be separated from garbage before transport so they can be quickly disposed of at the Wild Cove Landfill. Effective May 1st, 2006 all waste loads delivered to the Wild Cove Landfill from the ICI sector that are found to contain any amount of divertible material will be subject to a divertible material surcharge. This surcharge will be applied in addition to all other relevant tipping fees and charges. The divertible material surcharge rates are outlined as follows:
