About the Corner Brook Downtown Business Association

The Downtown Business Association (DBA), a non-profit organization, was incorporated in June 1987. The purpose of the organization was toConnection to the Corner Brook Stream Trail devise and implement a plan to revitalize the downtown section of Corner Brook This would be accomplished with major infrastructure development and a marketing strategy which would properly theme the downtown area as a historic district; upgrading streetscape infrastructure such as road surfaces, sidewalks and lighting; create proven tourism lures such as a museum, gazebo, pocket parks, convenient parking and other resort area amenities which would create a unique service area "ambience".

The DBA represents more than 300 businesses which together employ approximately 3000 people.  The project takes in the entire downtown core area and will see three miles of streets in the City's downtown core area completely refurbished and upgraded.

The Downtown Business Association and the City of Corner Brook have established very clear project objectives for the development of the Corner Brook Downtown area.  In summary they are:

  1. Establish a "unique" resort destination image that is compatible with the expectations of sophisticated tourists, and competitive with other resort areas in Atlantic Canada and the north eastern United States.
  2. Establish Corner Brook as a premier "all season resort destination area" featuring Marble Mountain, two world heritage sites, and a wide range of other amenities and experiences that  appeal to national and international travelers.
  3. Greatly increase tourist and local resident visitation of the downtown area.
  4. Serve as a catalyst for future business development and private investment.
  5. Preserve and enhance the downtown area's heritage and historical significance.
  6. Develop a professional strategy to market and promote the downtown area to increase local usage and capture a more significant share of destination travel visitors.
