Council is always looking for new ways for our community to grow and prosper. The following is a list of initiatives and projects that the city has completed or is currently participating in: Capital Works ProgramAs part of Council’s long-term commitment to capital improvements, the City is participating in a progressive 3-year (2008-2011) capital works program worth $38.3 million. This investment will enable the city to address several high priority concerns such as road reconstruction and repairs, building and facility renovations, and upgrades for recreational areas. Through this program, the city will continue to grow with improved level of services for its residents while taking into consideration the city’s social, economic and environmental needs. Current ProjectsRoads, Water & Sewer 1. Resurfacing Program Streets Paving Program at Various Locations throughout the City 2. Woodbine Avenue Reconstruction Phase 1 Reconstruction of approximately 200 meters of Woodbine Avenue including water, storm sewer, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and asphalt pavement 3. Humber Park Reconstruction Phase 1 Reconstruction of Storm, Sanitary , and Water Mains, in addition to road and sidewalk removal and reinstatement on a section of Humber Park 4. Highland Avenue Reconstruction Reconstruct Highland Ave, including sub excavation, replacement of asphalt pavement and curb. Minor drainage improvements. 5. Broadway Storm Sewer Replacement - Phase 1 Replace approximately 100 m of storm sewer. 6. Station Road Sanitary Sewer Upgrades Remove and replace approximately 165 meters of watermain and sanitary sewer and related work. Reinstate subgrade and asphalt pavement. Construct new sewerage pump station. Decommission existing sewage pump station. 7. Georgetown Road Sanitary Sewer Upgrades Construct sanitary sewer at Georgetown Road from the intersection of Candow Drive to Hilliard’s Road. Decommission existing sewage pumping station. 8. East Valley Storm Sewer Upgrades Twinning of Armstrong Avenue culvert, replacement of collapsed pipes in East Valley playground and Majestic Square, and replacement of the Majestic Headwall 9. PRV Station Upgrades Refurbishment of the West Valley Road Pressure Regulating Station to include repairs to the chamber and fixtures 10. Bayview Heights Pumphouse Refurbishment of the Bayview Heights Pumphouse 11. Watson's Pond Feeder Main Installation of a Feeder Main and Pumping Station to provide fire protection to Watson's Pond Industrial Park 12. Watermain Looping Supply & install approximately 1150m of ductile iron distribution main to loop existing water systems to improve water quality & flows.
13. Residential & Commercial Water Meters Installation of Residential and Commercial Water Meters in various areas of the City. 14. Pepsi Centre Roof Re-roof the main sections of the Pepsi Centre Roof, excluding the Pepsi Studio
15. Corner Brook Curling Club Construction of a new 4 sheet Curling Rink in the area adjacent to the Pepsi Studio 16. Bikeways Construction of approximately 11 KM of Bikeways, new bridge at Corner Brook stream, Park Street Bus Transfer Station, new Bus Shelters. 17. Bus Transfer Station A new transfer station on lower Park Street has been constructed complete with washroom facilities for Bus Drivers. 18. Bus Shelters 19 new bus shelters were installed throughtout the City. |
