Municipal Police

The municipal police enforce city by-laws and regulations; respond to inquiries and complaints, and issue violation notices and municipal ticketing.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) provides police services within the City of Corner Brook; whereas the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) services the areas outside the city boundaries.

Taxi Licensing

In accordance with the City of Corner Brook’s taxi regulations , taxi operators are required to obtain an Annual Taxicab Operating License and drivers are required to obtain an Annual Taxicab Drivers License. All appropriate fees must be paid prior to operating. All licenses issued under these regulations are valid form May 1st to April 30th of the next calendar year. All fares for taxicab service are regulated by the City and are posted in the taxi regulations schedule 'D' .

Mobile Vending Regulations

As indicated in the mobile vending regulations  any person wishing to operate a mobile vending unit within City boundaries must obtain a mobile vending permit and pay the appropriate fees to starting operation. A Mobile Vendor is considered to be one who sells food or goods in a temporary establishment.   A certificate of insurance is also required with provisions for general and automotive liability. Coverage is as  outlined in the regulations section 5(c)(v) of the mobile vending regulations.

Parking

The city has both metered and free parking throughout the downtown core. Metered streets are Broadway, Main Street, Herald Avenue and West Street.  Fees are $0.75 per hour. Meters are monitored from 9:00 A. M. till 6:00 P.M. Monday to Friday except holidays. Limited free parking is also available.

To contest a parking ticket issued by the City of Corner Brook you must complete and submit a traffic ticket complaint form  to the City of Corner Brook before the court date. Fines may be paid up to 24 hour before the court date noted at the bottom of the ticket. Failure to pay the fine within the prescribed time will result in provincial court prosecution.
