Award-winning ROLSTON STRING QUARTET at Corner brook Arts and Culture Centre
March 1 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Arts and Culture Centres and Debut Atlantic are proud to present a wonderful night of classical music with one of the world finest string ensembles, the Rolston String Quartet. We have also partnered with a local restaurant in each community to encourage a night out with dinner and a show, to warm up this winter!
Described by the Toronto Star as belonging “to a generation of string players performing at a level difficult to imagine in generations past”, the Rolston String Quartet have stormed onto the international classical music scene with First Prize wins at the 12th Banff International String Quartet Competition and at the 31st Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition. In 2018, they received the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award from Chamber Music America and were the first international ensemble chosen for this award.
The quartet, consisting of Luri Lee (violin), Emily Kruspe (violin), Hezekiah Leung (viola) and Jonathan Lo (cello) are young, tremendously talented and at the top of their game. Featured on CBC’s 2016 list of Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30, Rolston String Quartet’s performances have taken them throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Israel with highlights in venues such as the Smithsonian, Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts, and Austria’s Esterhazy Palace.
Their program includes Haydn’s “Sunrise” quartet, with its dawn invoking themes, Murray Schafer’s “Waves” an ocean soundscape in music, as well as Beethoven’s ambitious “Razumovsky” Quartet. Rolston String Quartet performs “with a maturity and cohesion rivaling the best string quartets in the world” (Musical Toronto), making this a must-see concert!
In December 2018, the quartet performed in the famed Carnegie Hall in New York City, and in a few weeks they will tour Newfoundland & Labrador from February 26 – March 4 at the Arts & Culture Centres. We have also collaborated with local restaurants to enjoy a special night out this winter. Visit any of the participating restaurants in February to receive a discount code for $5 off each ticket purchased to the Rolston String Quartet. Tickets are on sale now for $20 each (regular price) at www.artsandculturecentre.com/online/article/RolstonStringQuartet.
