Spring Clean Up

Spring Clean-Up is the special collection of general household items that too bulky for normal collection.  May 1st – May 12th has been established by the City of Corner Brook to be the CLEAN UP PERIOD for 2017.

During this period, residents are requested to make a special effort to clean up their properties and take advantage of additional equipment that will be made available by the garbage contractor to remove garbage and debris to the Corner Brook Disposal Site.

Residents are reminded that clean-up of additional items and bulk items will be collected on your regular garbage collection day.

What’s Accepted

  • Household appliances (refrigerators, stoves, hot water tanks, etc.)  Note: any item such as refrigerators or air conditioners must be labeled AODS Free.  Anything not properly labeled will not be accepted.
  • Household furniture (sofa, chairs, box springs & mattresses, etc.)
  • Broken glass (safely packaged)
  • Lawn furniture
  • Toys (bikes, etc.)
  • Small automotive parts (rims, etc.)
  • Garden items (branches and grass cuttings)
What’s not Accepted

  • Wood (pallets/lumber/trees)
  • Hazardous, explosive or toxic waste
  • Liquid wastes
  • Tires – Residents are advised that under the provincial Governments Used Tire Recycling Program tires cannot be disposed of at the City landfill.
  • Automotive parts exceeding 35 kg in aggregate weight
  • Construction waste such as defined in the City of Corner Brook Garbage and Refuse By-law (i.e. gyproc, shingles, lumber, windows, doors, concrete, etc.)

Note:

  • Appliances and/or metals should be kept separate from other items to allow for separate pickup by the garbage contractor.
  • Environmental guidelines require that prior to disposal, all fuel storage tanks must be emptied, vented and purged using steam or some other acceptable method.
  • Bulk items are only collected during the second week of clean-up (May 8-12) on residents regular garbage collection day.
