Deputy Mayor Bernd Staeben signed a proclamation regarding the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence-Purple Ribbon Campaign  (Nov. 25-Dec. 10) today in Council Chambers.

The proclamation calls for all to prevent violence against women in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence is a Global Campaign dedicated to end Gender-Based Violence and highlight other significant dates such as: November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women; November 29, International Women Human Rights Defenders Day; December 1, World AIDS Day; December 3, International Day of Disabled Persons; December 6, Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre and December 10, International Human Rights Day.

Everyone can wear a purple ribbon and help spread the message that violence of any kind is unacceptable.
