On Monday City Council announced the 2017 Community Grant recipients at the Public Council meeting. The community grants aim to support initiatives that provide benefits to residents in our community. These benefits may arise through the development of local partnerships, or by providing opportunities that encourage community participation in programs, activities and events. The total amount awarded for in 2017 is $249, 500.

This year  fourteen organizations received Community Grants:

  • Humber Community YMCA –Arts & Community Program Grant
  • Gros Morne Summer Music–Arts & Community Program Grant
  • Corner Brook Museum & Archives Society — Service Grant
  • Winter Carnival–Special Event Grant
  • Corner Brook Running Club–Community Organization Grant
  • Corner Brook Sea Cadets –Community Organization Grant
  • March Hare–Arts & Community Programs Grant
  • Theatre Newfoundland Labrador — Arts & Community Programs Grant
  • Corner Brook Rotary Music– Arts & Community Programs Grant
  • Vine Place Community Centre–Community Organization Grant
  • Corner Brook Stream Development Corp-Service Grant
  • Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club– Arts & Community Programs Grant
  • Wintertide Music Festival– Special Event Grant
  • Corner Brook Library Board –Community Service Grant

* we provide additional funding for special events, scholarships; and the Greater Board of Trade Tourism Chalet (12.63%).

In addition to providing Community Grants the City of Corner Brook provides associated and maintenance costs for space provided to the Rotary Arts Centre;  Bay of Islands Search & Rescue; and SPCA. We provide a community room for groups to use at City Hall. These costs are estimated to be over $106,000 per year.

These grants have been established to provide a viable and sustainable future in partnership with our community. Through the Grant Program we assist in the establishment of projects, services and facilities in Corner Brook that respond to changing community needs.
