Snow Clearing Monitoring System Launched

City of Corner Brook
Media Advisory

The City of Corner Brook has officially launched its automatic vehicle location (AVL) system for 2017. Anyone with a computer, tablet or smartphone can access an online map to track the approximate locations and status of snow clearing equipment throughout the City.

As the winter season continues on the west coast and in anticipation of our average heavy snowfall, the City of Corner Brook is constantly looking for ways to use technology – like this AVL system – to help improve our operations and therefore provide better service to the motoring public. Currently, all snow clearing equipment is outfitted with the AVL system.

One of the most frequent comments and questions that we get from the public is “where are the plows,” said Mayor Pender. “This tool will help the public understand where we are and how we are working to keep the traveling public safe. This is the third year of being able to track snow clearing equipment. We are dedicated to helping the public to get where they need to go during our winter storms.”
FAQ on the AVL System

How do I access the AVL tracking application? https://www.511portal.com/cornerbrook

How does the City use the AVL system? The AVL system allows city staff to more efficiently manage street maintenance and responses to ice and snow conditions by tracking the location, conditions, and status of plow systems and to create reports of vehicle activities.

When can I use the AVL online tracking system? The AVL snow plow location tracking web page is always available to the public. Whenever street clearing equipment is active, citizens may see a real-time snapshot of the street maintenance vehicle locations.
