City Council Approves Collective Agreement With IAFF 1222

MEDIA ADVISORY
The Corner Brook City Council and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF 1222) are pleased to announce a new collective agreement has been negotiated and approved. The membership of the IAFF 1222 ratified their approval of the agreement on Friday October 16, 2020, with Corner Brook City Council following suit on October 22nd. The new agreement is retroactive to January 1st, 2020 and will remain in place until December 31, 2023.
The contract includes a total of nine percent annual wage increases over the four years and improvements in sick leave, standby pay, and annual leave. There were improvements made in the overall contract language and a review of the current promotional routine system. Corner Brook City Council and IAFF 1222 are pleased to say the agreement was reached without the need for external third party mediation or third party advisors at the bargaining table.
“Any time we’re able to reach a negotiated deal with our unionized employees, it’s a good thing. Our City only runs by the hard work of our staff. This is a fair deal that balances the needs of our firefighters with the fiscal restraint our City requires. On behalf of Council, I’d like to thank both negotiating teams and the members of IAFF 1222 for this positive outcome. We look forward to building on this renewed relationship of mutual respect as we serve the citizens of Corner Brook in the years to come.”
