On December 12th, the City of Corner Brook is pleased to join the Kinsmen Club of Corner Brook to offer the Reversed Santa Claus Parade, a festival of stories and lights. This yearly tradition has been modified for COVID-19 measures, where residents will drive past the floats on display on West Street. The theme this year is Where Stories Begin, and it would not be possible without collaboration between many businesses and community groups.

The parade will take place from 5:00 p.m. to approximately 9:00 p.m.

West Street will close to motor-vehicle traffic from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday the 12th in order to allow groups to safely set up their displays. The street will be open to pedestrian traffic until 4:00 p.m. with parking access via Park Street and Main Street. We encourage residents to shop and eat at local businesses this holiday season, especially on the 12th!

For the safety of residents and in keeping with COVID-19 protocols, unfortunately we cannot allow pedestrian traffic after 4:00 p.m. unless they are heading to or coming from a West Street. café, bar or restaurant. This measure is in place to avoid crowds and ensure visitors in their cars can see the spectacular display.

For residents who do not have a vehicle, Star Taxi has kindly offered to take residents for a ride-through at no cost. Those who wish to use the free taxi service can queue at the lower Valley Mall parking lot for rides from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

If you or someone you know is unable to attend, the City of Corner Brook and Rogers TV have partnered to broadcast the parade directly to the City’s Facebook page on December 16th at 7:00 p.m.

Traffic Flow:

  • Access to the Parade will only be allowed through the left lane of Park Street.
  • The right lane of Park Street will be open to through-traffic.
  • The Main Street/ Mill Road/ Brook Street intersection will become a 4-way stop to improve flow.
  • The speed limit on West Street will be 5km/hr.
  • West Valley Road will flow into Central Street only. This measure is in place to ensure that parade traffic does not block access to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital.
  • Hospital Hill access to West Street will be closed and diverted to Central Street via Church Street.
  • Search and Rescue Volunteers and the RNC will direct traffic to turn right at the Main Street/ West Street intersection.

Motorists are asked to follow the direction of Bay Of Islands Search And Rescue members and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary at all times. Even at a reduced speed, this is an open-road event. Occupants in their vehicles must be wearing a seatbelt at all times, and children must be in their car seats.
