CBFD Advisory: Community Risk Reduction Session, October 18

On October 18, 2022 the City of Corner Brook Fire Department will be holding a Community Risk Reduction session with Laura King, the National Fire Protection Association’s regional director for Canada. This will be a day-long session looking at community risk reduction and a fire department’s level of service. We would like to extend a formal invitation to fire departments in nearby communities to join us. The session will take place at the Corner Brook Civic Centre.

BACKGROUNDER:
Laura King is the NFPA’s regional director for Canada. Since 2017, Laura has worked with NFPA as the public-education representative, helping fire departments from coast to coast to coast develop risk-reduction programs. Laura was promoted to regional director in January 2022. Laura was editor of Fire Fighting in Canada and Canadian Firefighter magazines for 10 years before moving to NFPA, and was a reporter and editor at newspapers and other publications across Canada and the United States for many years. Laura has an honours degree in journalism, political science and public administration. She is a certified Road to Mental Readiness instructor; has a certificate in Introduction to Incident Management Systems; and is NFPA 1035 certified as a Level 2 fire- and life-safety educator.
Laura was born in Cape Breton, has lived and worked in Halifax, Ottawa, Edmonton and Oakville, and thoroughly enjoys travelling to all parts of Canada for work, hiking and local cuisine!
