Busing Improvements in Corner Brook

MEDIA ADVISORY
On September 1, 2022 Buckle’s Busing took over for the City of Corner Brook as transit operator. Since this time the City has worked with Buckle’s, local Taxi operators and Metrobus in St. John’s to take small steps in improving and modernizing transportation in the City.
One such step has been to implement a service to and from the Western Long Term Care Home on 110 Health Care Crescent off of Corporal Pinksen Memorial Drive, and the main Transit Terminal on Park Street. This service is available on-demand during the regular transit schedule from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday to Friday. Passengers going to the Long Term Care Home must advise the Transit driver that they will need a Taxi, and Buckle’s dispatch will make arrangements. When leaving the Long Term Care Home, the passenger will call Taxi Company to request a taxi. Passengers are advised to call before 5:30 p.m. to arrange to leave the LTC. Transit fare ($3.25) must be paid to either transit operator or taxi driver, or they must show a valid monthly bus pass to the transit operator.

City Staff are also working with Buckle’s and Metrobus in St. John’s to implement a re-loadable card option as a method for payment. This program’s development is ongoing with an expected rollout of early 2023. A further announcement will be made at that time.

These are just a few small steps towards building a more robust Transit system in the City of Corner Brook, as per recommendations from the Corner Brook Transit Study and System Design.
