Work on phase 2 of the Mount Bernard reconstruction project will begin Tuesday April 18, 2023 with closures expected to begin on April 25, 2023.
This major reconstruction will mean disruptions to residents and visitors to the area. The City will use its new notification app, “Voyent, Alert!” to advise regarding detours, road closures or traffic delays. Residents can sign up here: www.voyent-alert.com.
The City will communicate directly with businesses, the school board and residents. Other interested parties, particularly commuters who regularly use the road, should use our social media channels, traditional news media channels, our website and Voyent for all the latest news.
Construction is expected to involve several more work zones this spring and summer, each starting one after the other, the first one being:
- Work Zone 2, Valley Mall Entrance – Wellington St. During this phase, this section of road will be closed to traffic. Wellington St. Will remain open at Mt. Bernard. Corner brook Intermediate, Holy Redeemer Cathedral, Xavier House and sports facilities will maintain access via Wellington St. Businesses on lower mount Bernard should be accessed from Main Street.
We understand this project will be an interruption to many users and ask for everyone’s patience throughout construction. Any questions can be forwarded to the City via our customer service line, 709-637-1666 or at www.cornerbrook.com/637-1666.
The total cost of this project is $10,376,520 with the Government of Canada and Province of Newfoundland and Labrador each contributing $4,150,608 under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The City of Corner Brook is contributing $2,075,304.
