The Corner Brook Fire Department is partnering with Fisheries, Forestry, Agriculture and the Bay of Islands Search and Rescue to host for the first time a FireSmart Community Preparedness Day and BBQ. The objective of this is to manage combustible vegetation in  a manner to reduce the spread of wild fires, the area of focus shall be the section of walking trail between Glynnmill Inn Pond and Margaret Bowater Park.

The event itself will be hosted on the pool side of the Park, which will include wildfire fire fighting equipment, Search and rescue will also display some of their equipment, A CBFD Fire Truck will be on site with a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog. The Corner Brook Fire Department is currently looking for volunteers for this event, if would like to participate please contact Justin Martineau at (709)637-1611 or jmartineau@cornerbrook.com.

There will be tools provided, such as square shovels, asphalt rakes and wheelbarrows. If you are a volunteer and have this equipment please bring it with you if possible. Safety Glasses and cotton gloves will be provided for those who need it.
