Morgan Davis
July 29, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Morgan Davis has been playing the blues across Canada, Europe, and the U.S. for 48 years. Originally from Detroit, Davis moved to Canada from California in 1968 and began to seriously study the music he loved. Toronto’s music scene was vibrant, affording the opportunities to see many blues legends – Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, James Cotton – all played regularly at clubs like the El Mocambo and Colonial Tavern. Blues festivals brought Booker White, Son House, Johnny Shines, Yank Rachell, and more early country blues artists. He had the good fortune to back up players like Sunnyland Slim, Snooky Pryor, and Hubert Sumlin, learning directly from the masters. Performing solo, Davis plays traditional and original blues on electric guitars and 3 string cigar-box guitar. His music is far from cry-in-your-beer stuff – it is laced with a good dose of humor. |
