Main Street Bridge Replacement

Work involves replacing the aging structure with a new bridge that will incorporate an additional driving lane, updated lighting, improved decorative railing and wider driving lanes and sidewalks. The bridge will also be designed to provide additional clearances to handle high water incidents.

  • 75 year design life
  • Lane widths will be widened to 3.5 m
  • Additional driving lane added to provide 4 lanes
  • Cast in place fully integral concrete abutments which will eliminate need for bridge bearings and expansion joints
  • Concrete deck over steel plate girders
  • Vertical clearance of bridge at centre span raised about 520mm
  • Decorative railings with end blocks and light poles
  • Designed to resist water and ice loading
  • Main Street will have to be closed by up to 7 weeks.
  • Construction will use an accelerated bridge construction (ABC) method which will drastically reduce the amount of time that the street will be closed from 19 weeks down to 7
