Mount Bernard Reconstruction – 2022-23

Starting the week of August 29th, the City of Corner Brook will begin the long-awaited reconstruction of Mt Bernard Ave. This project is necessary in order to upgrade the water/ wastewater infrastructure in order to supply the region’s new hospital, with work taking place fall of 2022, continuing though spring of 2023. This major reconstruction will mean disruptions to residents and visitors to the area. As such, we will regularly post updates and information to this page as they become available.

Construction will take place in two zones this fall, each starting one after the other:

  • Work Zone 1, Main St – Valley Mall Entrance. During this phase, road access will be maintained for businesses. This phase is expected to last until the beginning of October.
  • Work Zone 2, Valley Mall Entrance – Wellington St. During this phase, this section of road will be closed to traffic. Wellington St. Will remain open at Mt. Bernard. School, church and sports facilities will maintain access via Wellington St. This is expected to take place between October and November.

We understand this project will be an interruption to many users and ask for everyone’s patience throughout construction. Any questions can be forwarded to the City via our customer service line, 637-1666.

The total cost of this project is $10,376,520 with the Government of Canada and Province of Newfoundland and Labrador each contributing $4,150,608 under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The City of Corner Brook is contributing $2,075,304.
