The City of Corner Brook is looking for individuals interested in filling the following two volunteer positions for the 2026 Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games. Descriptions of the positions are below. Any expressions of interest should be forwarded to Peter Robinson, Director of Recreation and Tourism, no later than Friday July 18, 2025.
Secretary, responsible for:
● recording and distributing the minutes of all Executive and full Host Committee meetings and ensures they are effectively organized and maintained
● monitor Games communications and correspondence (may be through the Games Manager or other staff, depending on Host Committee set-up)
● following up on action items/outstanding items identified and ensuring the Chair is notified of any issues or incomplete items
● receiving agenda items/reports to be tabled by Committee members
● circulating agendas and reports
● keeping an updated contact list of all Host Committee and Sub Committee Chairs
● keeping a record of all Host Committee activities
● acting as a custodian of all Host Committees governing documents. It is suggested that Host Committees set up a Google Drive (or alternative cloud storage) for all committee files. This allows easy access for all committee members and ease of information transfer to SportNL upon conclusion of the Games.
The Director of Finance, responsible for:
● overseeing and presenting budgets and financial statements to the Host committee. Providing regular updates in Host Committee meetings.
● presenting relevant receipts and providing disbursement of funds as approved
● liaising with sub-committee directors about their budgets, spending and accountability
● ensuring appropriate financial systems and controls are in place and draft policies to ensure adherence to these systems, including petty cash and expense reimbursements.
● ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
● monitoring each sub-committee budgets, responds to questions from Chairs pertaining to financial concerns
● with the Legal Advisor, acquiring adequate and appropriate insurance liability, vehicle and property coverage as required (although the Host Executive Committee may take care of this)
● receiving board approval for budget changes after adoption of the initial budget
● preparing accounts for audit after the NL Games have concluded
● maintaining a file of all receipt based expenditures in the event of an audit and arranges to store them appropriately
● sitting on the Friends of the Games committee
● maintaining their professional accounting designation, and informing the Host Chairperson if there are any changes to their profession during their tenure.
NOTE: Anyone expressing an interest in the Director of Finance position must have a professional accounting designation.
