CMHI: National Addictions Awareness Week Event

A Panel Discussion on the Role of Compassion and Support in Addictions Treatment and Recovery.
The Community Mental Health Initiative (CMHI), in partnership with local health and community allies, is hosting a free public event during National Addictions Awareness Week entitled “A Panel Discussion on the Role of Compassion and Support in Addictions Treatment and Recovery.” Join us on November 19, 2026 from 2pm-4pm at the Rotary Arts Centre in Corner Brook, NL, or virtually via Zoom.
The goal of this event is to promote connection, education, and healing in the Corner Brook region. By bringing together professionals, individuals with lived experience, and community members, this event aims to break down the barriers of stigma and shift the conversation around substance use from judgment to compassion. Presenters will discuss: how addiction affects the brain and behaviour; the role of individual support for people living with addiction; and how to employ harm reduction strategies and explore pathways to treatment and recovery networks. Whether you are navigating your own path, supporting a loved one, or simply looking to build a more inclusive community, your voice matters.
