In response NL Hydro’s Power Warning and in an effort to conserve power, the City of Corner Brook will closing City buildings until further notice. This includes the Marina Redmond Centre, the Civic Centre and City Hall. The water treatment plant has been switched to generator to avoid any disruption in operation. We will advise when operations in our facilities can resume. Our fire hall and public works depot remain open as an essential service hub.
At this time, we are in a Power Warning and the situation has not been escalated to a Power Emergency. To avoid a Power Emergency, residents can play a role by conserving energy where at all possible. Limit use during peak hours, turn off non-essential power drawing devices and lights. In the event a Power Emergency is necessary, and periodic blackouts occur, these blackouts will be only an hour at length at a time. We encourage residents to check on neighbours and vulnerable individuals in your vicinity and be mindful of your power consumption.
